The first Indian Ocean Triennial (aka IOTA21) will bring together makers, artists and crafted works from a selection of countries from around the Indian Ocean Rim (IOR).
Based on the theme of ‘Curiosity and Rituals of the Everyday’, it will take place in Western Australia from mid-September to December 2021.
Through stories and conversations in craft making we will explore our innate curiosity and the rituals that connect us at home and across the ocean.
The team of six founding curators is working in collaboration with exhibition venue partners John Curtin Gallery and Fremantle Arts Centre to stage the central exhibitions, conference and other activities.
FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY CRAFT
Over 25 other venue partners across Perth and Western Australia will present exhibitions and programs, in support of the Triennial theme, to form the wider festival.
The Indian Ocean Triennial is an unprecedented opportunity for cultural sharing and diverse community engagement, locally and internationally, during and as a result of its activities.
